I don't have dual GPU laptop anymore to test it, but used to, this sounds like NVIDIA Optimus (for switching between cards), on Linux this is handled by the bumblebee project.
In theory, typing You can generally "trigger EOF" in a program running in a terminal with a CTRL+D keystroke right after the last input flush. You can also use sudo update-grub
