As memory serves me, switching TTY's should fix the problem.

To fix your video problem, hit the host_key + F1, followed by host_key + F7....

Yes you are absolutely right. I had installed Ubuntu 12.04.2 from live CD, which had actually the same version that Ubuntu 12.10 use. You can check it here
